During a recent restoration in North Richmond we found a prime example of an inferior restoration with a quick handyman repair. The capping was in need of serious attention, weep holes were blocked, pointing cracked, collars missing, broken tiles, these all potential causes of a top ridge leaking into roof cavity.
1
A typical damaged tile that needs to be removed, the grey on the capping shows the inferior repair “a patch up”
2
You can clearly see that the original Restoration hasn’t stood the test of time; the original colour is starting to show through.
3
Caps are lifted and the old cement bed is removed
4
Broken or damaged tiles are replaced
5
All the old cement bedding is bagged and removed from the roof in preparation for new bed
6
New bed of sand and cement is laid
7
Ridge caps are re-laid (re-bed) and the bed is trowel finished smooth
8
After ridge caps are trowel finished, weep holes are pushed through the bed to prevent future moisture being trapped, eliminating a key cause of top ridge leaks
9
After all repairs are complete the roof is then coated with the Dulux Acratex Membrane System.
10
Ridge caps are then pointed with flexible pointing compound (Flexi-point)
After
Roof is complete
All damaged tiles replaced
All capping re-bedded as required
1 x Dulux Acratex sealer coat
2 x Dulux Acratex color coats
Total re-point with Flexi-point compound
Weep holes placed through pointing
TERRACOTTA
SILVERLEAF ROOFING & RESTORATION not only restores terracotta roof tiles back to there former glory, we can now actually colour coat with the Dulux Acratex System if required.

Stage 7
STAGE 1
All broken and damaged tiles are replaced
STAGE 2
A high strength "Bio-degradable" sterilizer is applied to the entire roof via watering can.
STAGE 3
Sterilizer starts working immediately loosening and killing the lichen moss that in turn turns black.
STAGE 4
The tiles are then pressure cleaned (3500psi), to bring them back to their original appearance, the transformation is instantaneous.
STAGE 5
Left side shows the typical result after pressure cleaning.
STAGE 6
The ridge caps are then rebeded where required and then fully repointed in a colour appropriate Flexi-point.
STAGE 7
Roof and Gutters are given the once over with a blower to remove any last debris. Restoration is complete.
